Bariatric surgery
Bariatric surgery refers to a range of surgical procedures designed to help individuals with severe obesity lose weight. It’s typically recommended for people with a BMI of 40 or higher, or a BMI of 35 or higher with obesity-related health conditions like type 2 diabetes, heart disease, or sleep apnea.
Bariatric surgery helps by reducing the amount of food the stomach can hold, altering digestion, or affecting hunger hormones. It is usually considered after non-surgical weight loss methods have been unsuccessful.
